Cereal manufacturing blends formulation-driven batch steps with high-throughput continuous runs. Bulk grains (corn, wheat, oats, rice, barley) and ingredients (sweeteners, salt, vitamins, stabilizers) are sourced, received, cleaned, and milled into flour or grits, then batched and staged. The mix is cooked at recipe-specified times and temperatures (often pressure cooked), sometimes extruded into pellets, and dried in continuous ovens. Shaping then occurs on continuous lines: flakes are rolled and toasted; puffed (often rice) pieces are partially flattened and expanded with high heat; shredded wheat is formed through grooved rollers, cut, and baked; and fun geometries are made via extrusion. Finally, coatings or fortification are applied by spray or drum, product is conditioned as required, and cereal flows straight to packaging lines defined by a packaging bill of materials and linked to the production run for full traceability—keeping recipes controlled up front while maximizing downstream throughput and consistency.
